About Us

My Background

The "Magic Sounds Piano Studio" has been around for many years. We offer piano lessons for beginners, intermediate and advanced level students, children and adults.

My goal is to promote an interest and love of music, to give students the right skills to enjoy it and share it with others. The students actively participate in the life of the community. They play at retirements centers, Northgate Mall, downtown Durham, participate in the annual Duke Festival and in competitions.

Ms. Mila Karamushka is the main instructor of the studio. She was born and raised in Ukraine and got her Undergraduate degree in Piano Performance at the College of Music in Kharkov, Ukraine, and Master's degree in Piano Performance and Theory of Music at Kharkov State Conservatoire. She taught the piano at the School of Music, Lyceum of Arts and at her private studio. Ms. Karamushka is an author of the piano program for developing creative skills of young pianists. Sight reading, playing by ear, transposing, improvising are essential elements at the studio lessons along with learning repertoire of different styles and periods.

After moving to the USA Ms. Mila continued her career as a performer and a teacher. She worked as an accompanist at Abilene Christian University, TX, played in recitals and served as a church musician. After moving to North Carolina she worked as an accompanist for the North Carolina Boys Choir and traveled with them in the states of Virginia, Maryland and New York.

In 2012 Mila finished her Master's degree in Organ Performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. Besides her private studio, she holds the position of Music Director at New Sharon United Methodist Church in Hillsborough, NC.

Mila Karamushka is a member of the National Music Teachers Association, Chapel Hill Music Teachers Association, and Durham Music Teachers Association. She is also a member of the American Guild of Organists, American Choir Directors Association and Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts.

Sharing my Passion

I am a strong believer that everyone should be able to have a life of music. That's why I became a teacher. Whether you're just a beginner or an advanced student needing guidance, let's explore music together!

Our Classes

I offer private and group lessons, separated by skills level. If you're unsure about which level is appropriate for you, I could offer you a placement test.
